For Educational Interpreters

Providing resources and support to educational interpreters is essential to ensure they can effectively bridge communication gaps for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This support includes access to specialized training in American Sign Language (ASL), interpreting techniques, and an understanding of various educational topics to ensure interpreters can accurately convey lessons. Additionally, regular professional development opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and mentoring help interpreters stay current with industry standards and improve their interpreting skills. Collaboration with teachers, speech therapists, and other school staff is also crucial in ensuring that interpreters understand each student's specific communication needs and adjust their methods accordingly. By offering ongoing resources and training, educational interpreters are better equipped to foster inclusive learning experiences and empower students to succeed.

The PASS Project seeks to ensure that Indiana Educational Interpreters have the resources and supports needed to effectively work with their students. The Project does this by providing professional development opportunities and opportunities to participate in peer networks and mentoring.
